I have formulated a template for Think Tank meetings that I think could result in hundreds of small incentive competitions to innovate around the world.
I wanted to present the idea here and get input on it. I will walk through it step by step, and I would love your comments, suggestions, and improvements.
The goal of this is to have a structure for a Think Tank meeting in which the group can explore ideas for competitions, do some competition development and design, and ultimately end with a competition the full group is interested in. Then, the competition would be shared online for input here on the forum.
The competition could then be put into motion on HeroX.
How it works
At the beginning of a Think Tank meeting the Competition Design process is outlined. We will provide a deck that people can use for this.
We would also include in the deck 10 tips for designing competitions that my colleague and XPRIZE designer @stephanie_wander has put together.
A general topic is then presented to the group. This could be energy, water, drones, big data, or anything else.
The group is then broken up into smaller groups of 5 or so. Each group is provided with a sheet that looks like this:
Over the course of 45 minutes the team brainstorms ideas and then settles on an idea and fills the sheet in. The sheet guides the thinking for what a competition could look like.
Next the teams all present a 3 minute pitch of their idea to the full group and then everyone is given a sticker. They then use the sticker to vote on the idea they think has most potential.
The top three ideas now go into the finalists session. The entire group is now broken into three groups and each group continues designing one of the competition ideas. Each group fills in this form:
Then, the three teams provide a 5 minute pitch of their idea and there is another vote where a winner is chosen by the popular vote.
At this point, the entire Think Tank has driven down a bunch of ideas into a single competition idea.
What happens next?
The next step is to share the competition idea with the world.
We then ask someone from the winning team to document the idea here on the forum and we will provide a template that people can fill in.
This will then open the idea up for further discussion and collaboration, and hopefully result in people deciding to put it into action and create it on HeroX.
So that is the idea. I would love to hear thoughts on feedback on how to tune and refine it?
