Hey everyone - @edmcnierney @curious this may help shed some light on the situation.
Starting around January the NYC group was developing rapidly into the realm of business incubation, and I was needing specific legal feedback from the foundation before moving forward with more events.
There were relatively major intellectual property concerns that arose out of the group being under a separate name and legal ownership than those who operated it. Unfortunately I wasn't able to get a hold of anyone (repeated emails to Jono before he left, and then Ben and Eric in February and March went unanswered). So, in an effort to avoid clashing with that, I created Sodality as an IP-neutral group.
Part of trying to get a hold of you guys was in reaching out to meetup to investigate the process of setting up a new group under their new Meetup Pro program. I explained the situation to them, which I'm guessing is what is lying behind the group closings. The last conversation I had with meetup ended with them beginning the outreach process to XPRIZE to see what was going on, so my guess is that the master account was set up under Jono's account or an address that's no longer monitored.
I'm at your disposal to help get the groups back up and running immediately. @edmcnierney if you'd like me to reach out to meetup to explain I'd be more than happy to.
