Looking forward to working with you all! (Is this still the right place to post introductions?)
I am a serial software entrepreneur seeking to form and/or join a team.
Currently, I’m in search of of a hands-on technical co-founder and/or game developers. Soon will be interested in in-country partners (we'll know where that is when announced!). Happy to talk to others, as well.
With seed capital in hand, this would be a funded effort and not merely volunteer. I have lined-up a fiscal sponsor and I am in the process of incorporating a nonprofit to house the team. If you’re interested in working full-time on this effort, I’d love to talk to you.
I’ve been sketching out my ideas on how approach this challenge and speaking to experts about it. I’ve only been working on this a few weeks, although I have become increasingly passionate about tackling this issue.
More About Me
The first company I started, Higher One (NYSE:ONE), serves ~60% of US higher education and grew to over 750 employees. My second company, SeeClickFix, is a VC-backed SaaS company with a strong social mission that serves local governments and their citizens.
I have started 3 nonprofits and successfully obtained 501c3 nonprofit status. (In addition to sitting on the boards of other nonprofits.) So, I am familiar with the governance, tax and legal issues involved. I also have done nonprofit and for-profit fundraising.
Additionally, I’ve taught at Yale’s business school on the topic of managing software development.
In particular on the topic of learning:
- I was playing with Sugar and the first XO laptop even before I had
kids or a professional reason to do so.
- Reading did not come easily to me. I was lucky enough to have extra support from my parents,
tutors and teachers. I love reading today and believe it has been critical to my learning and success.
- Even in a world where computers can talk to you, literacy will hold power for many years. Anyone
should have access to that power if they want it.
I’m currently based in New Haven, CT and moving to San Francisco, CA this summer. (As an aside, I think the winning team will likely be virtual so we do not have to be in the same location. But sorry, right now I only speak English well.)
